I think you did the right thing by choosing to give your baby up for adoption. I think it was right of you to not abort it. Even though I am fully pro-choice, I think having an abortion would have saddled you with emotional mayhem. I think children should not be having babies. Teen pregnancy is a problem that rarely works itself out. Teen pregnancy forces young girls to make huge decisions, sometimes on their own. Luckily in your case, Juno, your family and friends were very supportive which is a beautiful thing. I’m not saying that I think teen pregnancy should be embraced and celebrated because I don’t feel that way, but I do feel that the last thing a young lady needs when faced with this sort of crisis is judgement or shaming coming from those closest to her.
Honestly, I want to tell you how lucky you are. You were lucky to be close with the father of your baby after giving birth. That’s rare. You were also lucky to have a loving and stable homelife and kind friends to help you when you were sad. You were lucky to find a family that would love your baby when you weren’t ready to. Maybe you already know these things. Your story is not the best example for me to share my opinion on because it had a happy-ish ending which is not usually the case with kids who have kids too early in life. I think that most of the time, pregnant teens come from abusive households or poverty or struggle with self-loathing and a lack of self-confidence. Like I said before, you were lucky to have lots of healthy examples in your life and I think that helped you make the best decisions about your baby.
Again, I’d like to say that I think you made the right choice for your baby and I wish you luck in High School and with Bleeker!
